A blast from the past

Yesterday morning when I was having my Saturday sleep-in I had the most amazing dream. It was my birthday, and Dwayne and I were living somewhere in the countryside, maybe it was England maybe it was somewhere in Australia. We were on a stable yard and I had a horse, I huge thoroughbred. I was walking across the yard towards Dwayne, and I saw him standing holding another horse. I looked at the horse and slowly realised I recognised it. I said:
- Dennis...?

It was Dennis! Dennis the Menace from my days at Hyde Park Stables in London! He was my favourite, the most wonderful little creature there was. He was a beautiful little bay cob, with a cropped mane and a wicked sense of humour. He had a fantastic ability to ignore his riders, and he would more often than not suddenly bolt with clients on his back. Us instructors could do nothing but hang back and watch Dennis' solid backside and the clients flailing arms disappearing amongst the maples in the distance. And hope for the best. My goodness, I loved that horse.

And there he was. Standing in the stable yard at the hands of my husband. He had gone looking for Dennis, found him, and bought him for my birthday. The dream was one of those that feel so real, that have no elements too bizarre to be reality. I could not believe that he found my Dennis! How? He came from a horse dealership, spent a short time at Hyde Park behaving totally outrageously and inappropriately, and was sent back into the anonymous world of horse dealing never to be seen again.

And still, there he was in front of me. I was so happy my heart could explode when I threw my arms around his solid cob's neck. I woke up with tears of happiness rolling down my face, and it took me a minute to shake the dream and see that it was not real.

So, the expectations are set. I know what I want for my birthday this year.
