Kids these days

I am currently interviewing people for a receptionist role at work. One lucky person will get to answer to me on a daily basis. (Any takers?)

I find interviewing an absolute minefield. It is all but impossible to say which one will be the one that has two sick days every week, which one is the one who's default answer to any request is "that's not my job", and which one is a moody cow who you have to either confront daily or tiptoe around. All of the above is so much more common than the friendly, up-beat, hardworking girl with strong work ethics and a can-do attitude that I am looking for.

Out of five shortlisted ladies, only two actually showed up for an interview. One decided to reply to me via text message. TEXT MESSAGE. What's wrong with young people these days? You pick up the telephone and call or you send a well written email with your CV attached. You introduce yourself properly. You do NOT reply to a job ad via text message. I hope nobody gives this girl a job until she learns appropriate procedure.
