On day 4 we woke up and decided it would be nice to travel along the coast for a bit, so we headed down south-east through Cooma again aiming for Eden on New South Wales far south coast.
Just after the town of Tumut we arrived on the shore of the Blowering reservoir. I spotted a very inviting hill on the side of the road, and convinced Dwayne that it would be worth getting to the top to see what was on the other side. We parked by the lake and started making our way on foot up the long and steep hillside. For the most part it was easy going across grassy ground, but the higher we came the more blackberry bramble we encountered. The kangaroos had made nice paths through the evil thorns, but it was still all but impenetrable in some spots. (I blame the English. They brought this unkillable bush to Australia in the 1800's and now it covers all but the Northern Territory and they can't get rid of it).
We carried on in the sunshine, upwards, looking back at the breathtaking views behind us as we went along. Large groups of surprised kangaroos looked suspiciously at us as we struggled past. When we finally reached the top (my favourite jeans ripped by blackberry thorns) we found it did not at all look as we had imagined. Instead of a grassy plain there was an entire secret forest up there! Beautiful, old, majestic gumtrees that you could not see from the foot of the hill. We stuck around and enjoyed the views for a bit before making our way down again. The whole expedition took a good couple of hours, so when we got back to the Spaceship we made lunch by the lake and sat around in the sunshine for a bit. It was a fantastic day for it!
We then continued on the Snowy Mountains Highway and travelled through some more gorgeous high country with spots of snow before stopping in the town of Bemboka for the night.
