Intrepid explorers

Today we went for another walk along the coast - south this time, to Manly. This walk was even better than the one that leads north. The first bit starting from the south end of Dee Why beach goes (when the tide is low) across rocks with rock pools full of interesting things like crabs, fish, various molluscs and varieties of seaweed. I really wish I knew more about all the things I see. I think I must invest in some books on marine life. The sea today was calmer than last week, but the waves still roll in a silently imposing deep blue, and break on the rocks into roaring green and white. Over and over again, from the beginning of time into eternity. There is something menacing about the ocean. And it is absolutely amazingly beautiful!

The rocks and cliffs themselves are amazing too, fantastic sandstone formations that makes one want to climb and scramble and explore. Once across the rocks and up on the cliff edge the trail becomes a winding path through thick bush, there are flowers and interesting looking plants everywhere you look. And in the undergrowth there are things scurrying away as you approach, and occasionally you catch a glimpse of a lizard peering back at you.

It is the most wonderful walk, with the ocean on one side and greenery all around. When you least expect it you arrive at Curl Curl beach, which seems a little less vicious than Dee Why. The waves seem to roll in in a more orderly fashion. Dwayne and I took our shoes off and walked in the edge of the water all the way to the south end of the beach, and then continued through the streets to Manly. In manly we had dinner at a beach front bar and restaurant before hopping on a bus home to Dee Why.

Excellent excursion!
