Permanent holiday

The thing about living in a place like Sydney is that every day feels like holiday at some point. It usually hits me when I come driving home from work and see the vast Pacific Ocean on the horizon from the top of the hill. The first time I was completely unprepared and thought for a second "What in the world is that?" before I realised it was the ocean. Or sometimes it hits me when I walk up to my house past palm trees and ferns, or when I lie in bed and listen to various exotic birds outside my window (including laughing kookaburras and this incredibly loud little fellow that lives in the palm tree off our balcony).

Cockroaches are also a true sign of holiday, as far as I'm concerned, and on Saturday night when I opened the bathroom door one decided to scurry across the floor and make me jump a little. Things scurrying in the dark is always a bit unnerving.

And today there was holiday weather outside as well, 33 degrees and sunny. The only thing ruining the illusion is that I am not on the beach but have to be at work all day...

Outside my front door

Dinner on the balcony. Just like any Monday.

Det ser jättegott ut. Idag åt vi på et ministälle i Tavira, det var också gott men långt ifrån så festligt arrangerat.
