Me and my friend Andrea jetted up to Cairns on Wednesday morning (after an hour's delay at the airport. Jetstar, not my favourite airline). We were picked up at the airport and transferred to our fantastic accommodation in Trinity Beach. Andrea had booked a two bedroom apartment for us, but none of us had expected it to be quite so impressive. The place was HUGE. We both had our own living quarters with separate bathrooms, there was a washer and dryer in the main bathroom, there was a full kitchen with oven and cooker and everything. The balcony was at least three times the size of my already large balcony at home, and we had a gorgeous and unobstructed view of the beach. And best of all, it is the wet season and not tourist season in the area at the moment, so we were all but alone there!
We just had time to unpack and admire our living quarters before we set out on a crocodile farm tour. The north Queensland wet season provided a couple of dramatic downpours, but we had umbrellas and it was so hot being wet didn't really matter. We were guided around the crocodile farm learning about how they breed them for leather primarily, and meat secondarily. We then went on to feed cassowaries, cuddle koalas and watch a crocodile show featuring mad men teasing hungry crocs - very entertaining!
We finished the day on the balcony over some wonderfully chilled wine, chatting and watching an awesome thunderstorm over the dark coral sea. Great day!
