I sometimes sit around thinking of England, and I find myself missing the food I used to enjoy:
The gigantic plates of disgustingly gooey nachos you get at the Big Red rock bar in Holloway. Too much of everything goes a long way.
Takeaway from Akbar Tandoori in Wood Green. It is a tiny and dodgy looking little takeaway joint just off Lordship Lane, and if you're brave enough they make you the most indulgent curries you can imagine.
The pastries from Paul. We used to get them delivered every other Friday morning at work, and I would grab a raisin escargot straight out of the box, still hot from the oven, whilst flirting with the French delivery boys. The pastries I have come across here are over-sized and nowhere near as luscious as Paul's. And there are no French delivery boys.
Burgers from Bill's in Covent Garden. Bill's is a quirky and fashionable restaurant and deli grocery store, and their burgers are amazing. Costly, but so worth it. Always ordered with everything on top.
The chicken from Nando's. Always the same order: Olives to start, 1/4 chicken medium spicy, chips and coleslaw with some garlic peri-peri sauce on the side and a bottomless soft drink. They have Nando's here in Australia too, but it is just not the same. They look the same but they don't have the garlic sauce, they don't do bottomless drinks, and they put celery in the coleslaw. Not cool.
