Salvation to the world - please!

The day we decide to move out of our beautiful one bedroom loft apartment I have one demand and one demand only. NO CARPETS.

Honestly. Carpets. What a dirty, horrid, pointless invention.

People who live in Sweden and have spent no or very little time abroad live in the blissful belief that carpets are a thing of the past. Something you find only in hotels and in old houses that haven't been refurbished in the last 40 or 50 years. But I am here to inform them that out there in the big strange world carpets are very much a current feature.

Whenever I mention my dislike for carpets to a Brit or an Aussie, they seem to agree at first. But soon it transpires that wooden floors is a nice luxury but in their opinion you still must have carpets in the bedroom, at least. They have (thank heavens!) moved away from things like carpet in the kitchen or the bathroom (yes, I have seen it, for real) but they seem unable to imagine a bedroom without nice fluffy carpets. And they ask silly questions like:
- So, what DO you have on the bedroom floor in Sweden?
Well, wooden floors or at least some Ikea laminate, obviously. Or anything but carpet, really. Here is a mission for all Swedes abroad - bringing salvation from carpets to the world.

I wouldn't mind a place with tiles throughout. A tiled living room is very unswedish, but it works really well in hot climates and it is a DREAM to clean.

Carpets. Torch them all, I say.
