A different language

Here in Australia , it is possible to put an "o" at the end of almost any word, and claim that it is a real word. For example, car registration is rego. Even on government information websites, it is referred to as rego.

On the radio the other day I heard someone saying they were "a bit devvo" because something had not gone their way. I can only assume that they were feeling a bit devastated.

Aussies are also very fond of putting an "o" at the end of names. Like Dwayno, or Johnno like the pilot from the Flying Doctors. (Ah, the Flying Doctors. I wonder if you can buy it as a Blu-ray boxset?)

There are also other very well established nicknames, the most prominently featured being Maccas. If you search for Maccas online, you come straight to McDonald's. And in their TV ads, they refer to themselves as Maccas. It's fascinating.
